Then laid out
Here is a trick .... I mark and bore dowel holes before I cut the top arc.
Then I cut the arc with the fitted dowel in placer
Then I hand plane it to a nicely shaped form

114.jpg
115.jpg
116.jpg
117.jpg
Then I shape the radius top vertical piece on the shaper with a ball bearing
The fit the other ends of the vertical pieces
the dowels were sanded for removal and are replaced with Mahogany dowels we made in the shop
The dowels are removed with a "dent pulling" tool and a wood screw

After fitting the door is glued and cleaned
The corners are cleaned with a tooth brush
The Lost Coast will stay in clamps for 3 days

I make all of my doors oversize and cut them to size after assembly
The the door is machine sanded to 220 grit
Note: that is furniture grade !!
and all of the molded edges are hand sanded
inch after inch ........ takes about 5 hours
The panels will be bookmatched Striated Fir on one side and bookmatched Curly Old Growth Redwood on the exterior of the door.

The interior of the home is Douglas Fir so we will be using some beautiful Striated Fir for the inside of the door panels
Here I glue up the bookmatched panels
Here I am making the panel "blanks" out of 2 pieces of 5/8" marine grade plywood
Then I edge the "blanks" with Old Growth Redwood

130.jpg
131.jpg
132.jpg
133.jpg
Then sand to 1-3/16"
Here is some of the curly bookmatched Redwood
I then vacuum press the Striated Fir and Curly redwood to the "blanks. The press is run for 72 hours to make sure the glue is cured
Here are the Striated Fir Panels

They were made 6 months in advance of making the door
