This is a "slice" of the vertical end-grain of a piece of Old Growth Redwood
Each "dark" line signifies ONE years growth ...... this piece is only 5" wide
This tree took a couple hundred years to grow a few inches in a primeval forest filled with trees of 6ft to 20ft in diameter.
